The most well-known components of cannabis are CBD (cannabidiol) a THC (tetrahydrocannabinol). Although both are cannabinoids, their effects and properties differ significantly.
CBD - Non-psychoactive cannabinoid
CBD has gained a lot of popularity in recent years because not psychoactivewhich means it does not cause stupefaction. Affects endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the human body that regulates various functions such as sleep, pain, immune response and mood.
Among the main beneficial effects CBD include:
- Pain relief - has anti-inflammatory properties that can help with chronic pain, arthritis and neuropathic pain.
- Reduction of anxiety and stress - has anxiolytic effects that help relieve stress and anxiety.
- Improving sleep quality - can help with insomnia problems.
- Promoting skin health - anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties are useful for acne, eczema and other skin problems.
- Treatment of epilepsy - In some forms of epilepsy, such as Dravet syndrome, CBD has been clinically confirmed as effective.
THC - Psychoactive cannabinoid
Unlike CBD, THC is psychoactive substancewhich affects the central nervous system and alters the state of consciousness. It is most common in Indian hemp (Cannabis Indica).
The main effects of THC:
- Psychoactive effect - induces euphoria, relaxation and altered perception of time and space.
- Increase in appetite - it is often used to treat lack of appetite.
- Mood changes - in some people it improves mood, in others it can cause anxiety or paranoia.
- Deterioration of short-term memory - at higher doses can impair cognitive abilities.
- Risk of dependence - regular use can lead to psychological dependence.
"Entourage effect" - Cannabinoid cooperation
The different compounds in cannabis can act synergistically and amplify their effects. This phenomenon is called "entourage effect". For example, CBD can mitigate the negative effects of THCsuch as anxiety or paranoia.

- CBD is not psychoactive, has health benefits and is legal in many countries.
- THC is psychoactive, causing euphoria, but it can also have negative effects and the potential for addiction.
